very, very first wedding

This is the first time I took a camera to a wedding that I wasn’t attending as a guest. It was 2009. I was a co-shooter, but not one with a gun. I used to think I didn’t do a good enough job to be blog-worthy despite having permission to post these, but I went back through them recently and there are quite a few really nice moments I captured that I would love to share with you a few at a time.

I was blessed with the opportunity to assist in helping photograph a wedding in Wimberly. We were out in the middle of a huge ranch with not much light at all with a great live band and the crowd had a couple of hula hoops. I was watching the younger folk having some fun with those hula hoops and I wanted to try some creative rim lighting (or back lighting) since I had the flashes firing with radio transmitters and BOOM. This guy strikes a pose! Awesomesauce! I can’t help but post this one (yes, just one). Don’t worry. The main photographer told me to blog this one, so I’m safe. Usually I will never share any images from weddings I second shoot, but I just had to had to had to get permission to share just this once.

This is the wedding, my first wedding, for which I drove to Fort Worth for at the beginning of December. I had a difficult time narrowing down which pictures to exclude here, so there will be many shared below.

Ellena and Ryan are two of the nicest people you could possibly cross paths with and their wedding day was a fun one. Ellena’s smile is infectious and her laugh is contagious. Their wedding was beautiful at the Fort Worth YWCA despite the disagreeable weather.

Thank you, Ryan and Ellena, for allowing me to photograph your wedding day, sight unseen. I will never, ever, forget you both and the amazing time I had capturing these moments for you. Congratulations, again!

where I’ve been

I got a message on facebook a few weeks ago from a friend and fellow photographer, Crissy, from the DFW area about a wedding. She was on board as the photographer but the bride and groom switched the date from a Saturday to a Sunday and she was no longer available to cover their wedding. With my in-laws able to watch and babysit my three very young sons, I was able to drive up to Fort Worth and cover the wedding for Crissy. Here are just a few off of the first memory card I’ve copied. I will do a full wedding post at a later date once I get all of the photos copied.

I wasn’t going to work today as we just got back from DFW (me and my three little boys) but I couldn’ t help myself.
